Aprilia Secures Double Podium in Austria as Martín Extends MotoGP Lead

Jorge Martín finished second while Marco Bezzecchi claimed third, giving Aprilia three RS-GP26 machines inside the top four at the Austrian Grand Prix.

Aprilia Racing MotoGP ended the Austrian Grand Prix weekend with another strong showing as Jorge Martín and Marco Bezzecchi secured second and third respectively, following their podium finishes in Saturday’s Sprint race.

Starting from pole position, Martín made a strong getaway and held the lead when the lights went out. The Aprilia Racing factory rider eventually finished second behind race winner Pedro Acosta, adding another podium to his tally at the Red Bull Ring.

The result also allowed Martín to remain at the top of the MotoGP championship standings with 286 points after 14 rounds. He had reclaimed the championship lead after winning Saturday’s Sprint.

Bezzecchi produced an equally impressive start from fourth on the grid, immediately moving into second position. The Italian maintained his pace throughout the race before crossing the line in third. His podium completed a consistent weekend after he also finished third in the Sprint race.

Three Aprilias Inside Top Four

Adding to Aprilia’s strong result was Ai Ogura, who returned from his injury layoff with another fourth-place finish for the Trackhouse MotoGP Team.

The Japanese rider repeated his Sprint result, meaning three RS-GP26 machines finished inside the top four in the Austrian GP.

The result also marked a significant milestone for Aprilia Racing, with the manufacturer achieving its first double podium at Spielberg, both in the Sprint and the main Grand Prix.

Aprilia also recorded another milestone by securing four consecutive MotoGP pole positions, following Martín’s poles at Silverstone, Aragón, Misano and Austria.

Speaking after the race, Martín said he was pleased to return to a strong level of performance after the doubts surrounding his fitness following the previous round at Misano.

“It was a great weekend. Getting back to this level of speed and having good fitness after the doubts in Misano make me extremely happy.”

The Spaniard admitted that challenging Acosta for the victory proved difficult but said he continued pushing until the chequered flag.

Meanwhile, Bezzecchi was pleased with his progress throughout the weekend and believed Aprilia had extracted the maximum from the package.

“We truly achieved the maximum, and I’m pleased with the way I improved throughout the weekend.”

He added that he came close to Martín towards the end of the race and felt he may have missed an opportunity to attack at Turn 1 after making a small mistake.

Aprilia Looks Ahead to Motegi

Aprilia Racing CEO and team management also praised the performance of both factory riders, while congratulating Acosta and KTM on their home victory.

The team highlighted Martín’s Sprint victory and Bezzecchi’s consistency as key positives from the weekend.

However, Aprilia is already turning its attention to the next round in Motegi, Japan, where the team expects another demanding challenge.

Aprilia will also conduct an important test involving Pirelli tyres on the 850cc prototype following the Austrian GP, as the manufacturer continues development ahead of the next stage of the MotoGP project.

With Martín leading the championship and three Aprilia-powered machines finishing inside the top four in Austria, the Noale-based manufacturer heads into the next round with plenty of momentum.
