The specially prepared R 12 G/S receives factory-backed off-road upgrades ahead of the 2026 International GS Trophy in Romania.

BMW Motorrad has officially unveiled the competition motorcycle for the 2026 International GS Trophy, confirming that a specially prepared BMW R 12 G/S will take on the challenging off-road terrain of Romania when the event returns in late summer next year.
Based on the recently introduced production R 12 G/S, the competition bike receives a host of genuine BMW Motorrad accessories and factory option packages designed to tackle everything from mountain trails and forest tracks to rocky climbs and river crossings.

Built for the toughest GS Trophy yet
Rather than developing a bespoke race machine, BMW Motorrad has opted to showcase the versatility of the R 12 G/S by equipping it with components already available through its official accessories catalogue.
The competition bike is fitted with the Comfort Package, which adds Gear Shift Assist Pro, Hill Start Control, heated grips, and cruise control, ensuring riders remain comfortable during the long and demanding stages.
To enhance its off-road capability, the bike also receives the Enduro Package Pro, featuring off-road tyres, an 18-inch rear wheel, and handlebar risers that improve rider ergonomics when standing on the pegs.

Ready for Romania’s challenging terrain
Further upgrades include Headlight Pro with adaptive cornering lights, Riding Modes Pro, robust engine protection bars, cylinder head guards, and a Rally cockpit fairing. BMW has also equipped the motorcycle with navigation system preparation to assist competitors throughout the event.
An Akrapovič silencer provides a lighter exhaust setup and a more aggressive soundtrack, while a compact 5-litre tank bag has been repurposed as a rear luggage bag for the competition.
Together, the modifications are designed to improve durability, rider comfort and off-road performance without fundamentally changing the motorcycle’s production-based character.

Customers can build the same specification
Although the exact GS Trophy competition motorcycle will not be offered for sale as a complete package, BMW Motorrad says customers can closely replicate the build using the standard BMW R 12 G/S and the same catalogue accessories.
The recommended starting point is the Lightwhite uni colour scheme, which features BMW Motorrad Motorsport-inspired blue tank graphics paired with a distinctive red seat. According to BMW, the combination reflects the brand’s off-road racing heritage while highlighting the motorcycle’s sporting character.
The only components exclusive to the official competition motorcycles are the 2026 International GS Trophy graphics and decals, meaning enthusiasts can recreate nearly the entire specification available to the competing riders.

Continuing the GS Trophy tradition
Held every two years, the BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy brings together riders from around the world to compete in a series of endurance and technical riding challenges using production-based BMW GS motorcycles.
For the 2026 edition, participants will face Romania’s diverse landscape, with routes expected to include rugged mountain passes, dense forests, gravel roads and water crossings—terrain well suited to the R 12 G/S’s retro-inspired design and modern off-road capability.
With the official competition bike now revealed, the countdown begins for one of BMW Motorrad’s most anticipated global adventure riding events.
