HRC evaluates next-generation machines ahead of 2027 regulations with Espargaró and Nakagami at Sepang International Circuit.

Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) is currently conducting a private testing session at the Sepang International Circuit, focusing on the development of its new 850cc MotoGP prototype.
The closed-door test marks an important step for Honda as it prepares for the upcoming 2027 MotoGP regulations, which will see engine capacity reduced from 1000cc to 850cc along with other technical changes.
The latest Honda prototype is undergoing several days of testing at Sepang to evaluate its overall performance and potential. According to updates shared on social media, test riders Aleix Espargaró and Takaaki Nakagami are both present in Malaysia, with Espargaró confirming that a three-day test programme has been scheduled.
While specific details of the test plan remain undisclosed, it is believed that the session includes further evaluation of Honda’s 850cc engine package as well as revised aerodynamics in line with future regulations.
Nakagami, who previously tested the prototype at Sepang in March, reported that initial sessions have gone smoothly, with the bike delivering promising performance.

Espargaró also shared encouraging feedback, highlighting the lightweight nature of the machine. “The initial assessment of the bike was quite positive. The chassis and engine feel very light, and I was quite surprised by its performance—it’s very good,” he said.
Testing was briefly interrupted on the first day due to wet track conditions following rain at Sepang. However, improved weather over the following days allowed both riders to continue their programme and maximise track time.
With the 2026 MotoGP season set to resume at Jerez on April 24–26, Honda’s test team remains focused on long-term development rather than immediate race performance.
The Sepang test is part of a broader effort by Honda to gather data, refine its new engine platform and better understand how the next-generation MotoGP machine will perform under real-world conditions.
As development continues, the 850cc prototype represents a key step in Honda’s preparations for a new era in MotoGP.
