Authorities will be carrying out roadblocks this afternoon near Sultan Ismail Petra Airport (LTSIP) as part of a coordinated enforcement effort targeting a planned motorcycle convoy heading towards the airport area.

The operation, led by the Road Transport Department Malaysia in collaboration with traffic police, will involve inspections of all motorcycles entering the airport vicinity. The move comes amid concerns over a large-scale convoy organised by political groups and involving several state assemblymen.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook described the planned gathering as irresponsible, warning that such activities could disrupt airport operations and inconvenience passengers.

He raised concerns over the potential consequences of congestion caused by the convoy, questioning whether organisers would take responsibility if passengers were to miss their flights due to delays.

The Backbenchers Club Malaysia and Kelantan PAS Youth are reportedly organising the convoy, titled “Konvoi & Lepak Mat Motor Bersama YB YB”. According to promotional materials, participants will gather for Asar prayers at Masjid Muhammadi before proceeding to a speech by the club’s president.

The convoy will then travel from Kota Lama through the city centre towards LTSIP before concluding behind AEON Mall Kota Bharu.

Anthony Loke emphasised that enforcement would be carried out without exception, including on motorcycles ridden by elected representatives. He also stressed that any organised convoy must obtain prior approval from relevant authorities, questioning whether the organisers had done so.

Authorities’ swift response highlights growing concerns over public safety and potential disruptions at key transport hubs, especially when large, unregulated gatherings take place.
