Singapore’s National Environment Agency (NEA) plans to roll out an upgraded self-testing kiosk for motorcycle emissions at Woodlands Checkpoint by early 2027.
The new kiosk will allow motorcyclists to conduct emissions tests themselves under remote supervision, helping ensure that vehicles entering Singapore meet strict environmental standards. The system builds on a successful prototype trial that tested over 700 motorcycles and led to enforcement action against about 230 riders for exceeding emission limits.
Improvements will focus on a more user-friendly experience, including clearer on-screen instructions, video guides, and multiple language options. The system will also feature better communication tools—such as cameras and audio, for real-time interaction with officers.
The initiative reflects Singapore’s broader commitment to reducing vehicular emissions and improving air quality. With tighter regulations already in place, particularly for older and foreign-registered motorcycles, the enhanced kiosk represents a forward-looking approach that combines technology, automation, and enforcement.
If successful, it could serve as a model for more efficient and scalable emissions control systems, helping ensure that all vehicles entering Singapore meet its environmental standards.
