Red Bull KTM Factory Racing has secured the long-term future of two of motocross’ brightest young stars, as Lucas and Sacha Coenen sign a multi-year contract extension with the Austrian manufacturer ahead of the 2026 MXGP season.
The 19-year-old Belgian twins will continue their progression up the international motocross ladder, representing Red Bull KTM in both the MXGP and MX2 categories. Lucas Coenen will remain in the premier MXGP class aboard the KTM 450 SX-F, while Sacha Coenen continues his development in MX2 with the KTM 250 SX-F.

Strong 2025 season sets the tone for 2026 ambitions
Both riders enjoyed impressive performances in 2025, registering Grand Prix victories across their respective categories. Lucas built on his 2024 MX2 runner-up finish by delivering an outstanding rookie MXGP campaign in 2025. He claimed six race wins, became the youngest-ever winner in the premier class, secured 14 podium finishes, and ended the season second overall in the championship standings.
Meanwhile, Sacha Coenen continued his upward trajectory in MX2, scoring two race victories and collecting a total of 10 podium trophies during his second full-time season in the category.
The 2025 campaign also marked the first year both brothers worked under the guidance of Davide De Carli and his Rome-based Red Bull KTM Factory Racing structure, an alliance that has already delivered promising results.

Lucas Coenen: “We know our objectives”
Expressing his excitement about the contract extension, Lucas Coenen said he remains fully focused on delivering consistent performances in 2026.
“I’m really pleased to extend my contract with Red Bull KTM. The goal for 2026 is to give my best every weekend,” he said. “I want to thank the factory and the team for believing in me and my family, and for understanding the long-term plan for my career. We know our objectives and we’ll chase them as hard as we can.”

Sacha Coenen aiming for world championship fight
Sacha Coenen echoed his brother’s enthusiasm and believes the team is ready to take another step forward.
“I’m really happy to sign again with Red Bull KTM. Before looking too far ahead, I’m just excited for 2026,” he said. “We’ve made good progress and I believe we’re ready to show that we can run at the front and fight for the world championship. The bike has improved and we’re strong. There’s more to come.”
Team leadership confident in Coenen brothers’ potential
Davide De Carli, Team Manager of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing De Carli squad, highlighted his belief in the young Belgian duo.
“I’m very happy to continue working with Lucas and Sacha. It’s always been a dream to have them in our team,” he said. “Together we can combine our skills and help them shine on the track, writing another chapter in KTM’s history. Our passion for racing pushes us to improve every day. We are ready for new challenges, we are ‘Ready to Race.’”
KTM Motorsports Director Pit Beirer also emphasised the importance of continuity with the brothers.
“Lucas and Sacha are special talents, each with their own strengths but united by a passionate and committed family,” Beirer said. “It was important for us to continue this journey together at the highest level of the sport. For 2026, that means exciting seasons in both MXGP and MX2. They are still very young but have already set a high standard. It will be exciting to see what they can achieve next.”
With long-term backing from Red Bull KTM, the Coenen brothers are now firmly positioned to challenge for top honours as the 2026 motocross season approaches.
