Local assembly slashes nearly RM10,000 off the Kymco AK550 Premium, making it a stronger contender in Malaysia’s growing maxi-scooter market.

Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn. Bhd. (Modenas), part of the DRB-HICOM Group, has officially announced a revised Recommended Retail Price for the Kymco AK550 Premium. Following its transition to local assembly (CKD) under Edaran Modenas Sdn. Bhd. (EMOS), the maxi-scooter now arrives in Malaysia at a significantly more competitive price of RM55,888, almost RM10,000 lower than the previous CBU model introduced in 2024 at RM65,600.
The AK550 Premium available in two colour options, Black and Flat Brown, and the updated CKD pricing excludes road tax, insurance, and registration. With the new price structure in place, the AK550 is expected to position itself strongly against the growing field of large-capacity scooters in the Malaysian market.

The new pricing strategy preserves market competitiveness while highlighting premium features such as the advanced dual power mode engine mapping, Brembo braking system, and superior ride comfort.
At the heart of the AK550 Premium lies a 550.4 cc parallel-twin cross-plane engine capable of producing 50.9 hp at 7,500 rpm and 52 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheel via an automatic CVT transmission paired with a belt drive system. The scooter also offers two riding modes; Power and Rain, to suit varying riding conditions and preferences.
As a sport-touring maxi-scooter, the AK550 Premium comes equipped with upside-down front forks and a preload-adjustable rear monoshock. Both front and rear wheels measure 15 inches, fitted with 120/70 and 160/60 tyres respectively.

Braking performance comes from a 270 mm disc with a four-piston Brembo caliper at the front and a 260 mm disc with a two-piston caliper at the rear. The model also features a parking brake and a smart cornering ABS system designed to maintain optimal braking control across different riding conditions.
Convenience remains a key theme in the AK550 Premium’s design. Riders benefit from an electrically adjustable windshield, cruise control, and a smart key system for added practicality. Underseat storage is generous enough to accommodate both a full-face helmet and an open-face helmet.
Information is clearly displayed on a round TFT-LCD digital screen that supports Kymco smartphone application connectivity. The system allows navigation prompts, music control, and call management to be integrated into the riding experience. Fuel capacity stands at 14.5 litres, while the seat height is set at 785 mm, catering to a wide range of riders.
With the shift to CKD production and a substantial price reduction, the 2026 Kymco AK550 Premium is poised to draw increased interest from local riders looking for a well-equipped, performance-driven maxi-scooter at a more accessible price point. Modenas’ latest announcement reflects its continued push to strengthen its presence in Malaysia’s premium scooter segment.
