Valentino Rossi’s race-used BMW M4 GT3 from his 24 Hours of Le Mans debut fetches over €646,000 at RM Sotheby’s auction, preserving its battle scars and racing legacy.

The BMW M4 GT3 driven by MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi in his first-ever 24 Hours of Le Mans has sold for an astonishing €646,250 (RM3.16 million) at an RM Sotheby’s auction in Munich, far exceeding its original estimated value. 

The Bimmer, bearing Rossi’s iconic No. 46 livery, carried chassis number 22-046 and was offered directly by BMW M Motorsport. Originally estimated between €435,000 and €485,000, the M4 GT3’s final bid reflected not only its racing pedigree but also Rossi’s immense legacy in motorsport.

After retiring from MotoGP in 2021, the nine-time world champion transitioned into car racing full-time, joining Team WRT for the GT World Challenge Europe before moving up to the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC).

BMW M4 GT3

The auctioned BMW M4 GT3 was the very machine Rossi campaigned with WRT from 2023 to early 2025, achieving a series of impressive results including:

  • Victory at the Road to Le Mans
  • A win at Misano in the GT World Challenge Europe
  • Two additional podium finishes in the series
  • A strong fourth place in his WEC debut in Qatar
  • Double podiums at Imola and Fuji

Capping off its competitive career, the car claimed victory at the Bathurst 12 Hours in 2025, where it last raced in full spec before being preserved and offered for sale.

To preserve its authenticity, the M4 GT3’s distinctive livery was sealed in a special lacquer, maintaining its race-worn blemishes and battle scars, a visual mark of Rossi’s endurance racing journey alongside teammates Maxime Martin and Raffaele Marciello.

Having competed in 27 races across GT and endurance events, the car’s rich competition history made it one of the most sought-after pieces of modern racing memorabilia associated with “The Doctor.”

Its record-breaking auction price underscores the enduring influence of Valentino Rossi, whose name continues to inspire motorsport fans, both on two wheels and four.
