The Honda HRC team is ready for the ninth round of the 2025 FIM Superbike World Championship at the historic Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours, with Xavi Vierge joined this weekend by substitute rider Sergio García.
Lecuona Sidelined, García Steps In
Iker Lecuona remains unfit to compete after fracturing his left forearm in a crash at Balaton Park’s Race 1 earlier this summer. Following surgery on 28 July, the Spaniard is focusing on recovery with hopes of returning to action soon. In his place, 22-year-old García will make his WorldSBK debut, having already sampled the Honda CBR1000RR-R during a late August test alongside Vierge.
Vierge Confident After Strong 2024 Showing
Last year’s French round was a highlight for Honda, with Vierge and Lecuona both delivering competitive results, including a fifth-place finish for Vierge in the Superpole Race. Building on that foundation, the Spaniard is optimistic about repeating success at a circuit that often suits his style.
“Magny-Cours is a demanding track, especially with its unpredictable weather,” said Vierge. “Last year I achieved some good results here, including a top five in the Superpole Race. We’re coming off a constructive test, so the goal is clear: start well from FP1 and be ready for whatever conditions we face.”
García: Debut and Development
For García, Magny-Cours represents both a challenge and an opportunity. With no prior racing experience at the French track, the young Spaniard is focused on building confidence, learning the Superbike, and working closely with the team.
“I have never raced at Magny-Cours, so preparation has been about videos, past races, and some laps on the PlayStation,” García joked. “It’s going to be a challenge, but the right approach is to work calmly with the team and enjoy the experience. Naturally, the goal is to be as fast as possible, but also to learn step by step.”
The Magny-Cours Challenge
Opened in 1960, Magny-Cours is a 4.411 km circuit featuring 17 turns inspired by famous corners worldwide. Its mix of flowing sections and tight hairpins provides a stern test for riders and engineers alike. Known for its unpredictable September weather, conditions often play a decisive role in the outcome of races.
