As the MotoGP paddock heads to Barcelona, the Honda HRC Castrol squad arrives with renewed momentum. With Luca Marini’s contract extension secured and Joan Mir showing signs of consistency, the team looks to the Catalan GP as a key checkpoint in their development of the Honda RC213V.
From Hungary to Catalunya
Fresh from the inaugural Hungarian GP, the spotlight now shifts to the iconic Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Measuring 4.66 km, the track has been a MotoGP mainstay since 1995. With its blend of eight right-hand and six left-hand corners, Montmeló is among the most familiar and frequently tested circuits on the calendar, making it an ideal venue to measure progress.
Marini: Stability and Focus
Luca Marini arrives in Spain buoyed by a new deal with Honda and his best result for the team so far. The Italian has scored points in every race this season and is steadily helping shape the RC213V’s future direction.
“It’s great to announce the extension of our collaboration with Honda HRC… we need to keep working hard,” Marini said. He added that Barcelona’s “very different grip” will be a key factor, but emphasized the need to “continue as we have and keep our focus.”
Mir: Building on Speed
For Joan Mir, Hungary was another weekend of mixed fortunes, with promising pace undone by a crash. But Barcelona has historically been one of his stronger tracks, with multiple top-ten finishes in the premier class.
“Montmeló is a circuit I know well,” said Mir. “We have had some really good speed the past few weekends… I know that we can be in and around that top six or seven if we put everything together.”
Looking Ahead
The Catalan GP begins a demanding run as MotoGP enters its final stretch. Honda HRC Castrol heads to Barcelona with Marini steady, Mir pushing hard, and momentum for a strong season finish.
