The Yamaha Racing Team concluded a successful two-day private test at the legendary Suzuka Circuit in preparation for the 46th edition of the FIM Endurance World Championship “Coca-Cola” Suzuka 8 Hours, set to take place from August 1–3, 2025. Factory riders Jack Miller, Andrea Locatelli, and veteran Katsuyuki Nakasuga each played key roles in building pace, consistency, and confidence aboard the Yamaha YZF-R1.
Day 2 saw major gains, as both Miller and Locatelli significantly improved their lap times, getting more comfortable with the demands of the 5.8 km technical circuit and adapting to the race-tuned YZF-R1. Their progress provides strong momentum heading into the Official Pre-Event Test on July 30.
“It was nice to be back here in Suzuka, especially with the R1, it’s a lot of fun,” said Miller. “We had a good long run today, and I feel we’ve built a strong foundation. The pace is solid, and I think we’ll find even more during race weekend. It’s a demanding track, but I’m feeling more and more at home with every lap.”
Locatelli echoed Miller’s sentiments, noting the massive step forward from the opening day: “Today felt much better overall. I’ve now got more confidence in the bike, the tires, and the circuit. We still need to see where we stand when the full grid is out, but the consistency was there, and that’s what really counts in an endurance race.”

Team veteran and three-time Suzuka 8 Hours winner Katsuyuki Nakasuga, who didn’t ride on Day 2, oversaw the test program and expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress. “I’m relieved to see our base setup from the June test is working well. Jack and Loka adapted quickly, and although we still have improvements to make, our current level is already competitive. Communication and shared adaptation are key in endurance, and I believe we’re heading in the right direction, said Nakasuga.
Following the test, both Miller and Locatelli will return to Europe to resume their respective championship duties. Miller will line up for the MotoGP Grand Prix of Germany at Sachsenring (July 11–13), followed by the Czech GP at Brno (July 18–20). Meanwhile, Locatelli returns to WorldSBK action at Donington Park (July 11–13), then heads to the Hungarian Round at Balaton Park (July 25–27).
The momentum gained from this test puts Yamaha Racing Team in a strong position for their Suzuka 8 Hours campaign. With improved lap times, better synergy among riders, and a renewed focus on consistency, the team is poised to challenge for the top step of the podium at one of the most prestigious endurance races in the world.
