Two titans of American performance, Simpson Motorcycle Helmets and Buell Motorcycle Co., have united to release a limited-edition Mod Bandit helmet that blends bold aesthetics with cutting-edge functionality. Set to debut at the 2025 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, this collaboration celebrates the spirit of speed, innovation, and craftsmanship that defines both brands.
Preorders begin August 1 exclusively on the Simpson Motorcycle Helmets website, with deliveries expected in November.
Forged Carbon, Hand-Painted Detail
At the heart of the helmet is a forged carbon fibre shell, giving each unit a distinct, one-of-a-kind finish. Accentuating its premium look, the helmet features hand-laid pinstriping by Bob Smutz of Flyin’ Kolors, an acclaimed custom painter based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, now home to Buell’s headquarters. Smutz previously worked on Buell motorcycles, bringing a deep familiarity with the brand’s identity to the design.

A Tribute to American Muscle
The Mod Bandit’s design draws inspiration from Buell’s latest performance machine, the 175-horsepower Super Cruiser, developed in collaboration with Roland Sands Design. Embellished with Buell’s Pegasus logo and branding, the helmet reflects the brand’s roots in American engineering and high-performance racing.
Buell Motorcycle Co. was founded in 1983 by engineer and AMA racer Erik Buell. It has re-emerged in recent years with models like the Hammerhead superbike and the Super Cruiser. The new helmet pays tribute to this legacy and looks to the future of the revitalised brand.
Premium Features for Everyday Riders
Built on Simpson’s popular Mod Bandit platform, the helmet combines aggressive styling with modular practicality and modern safety. Key features include:
- DOT and ECE2205 certification
- Forged carbon shell for lightweight strength and unique appearance
- One-hand chin bar operation with locking mechanism
- Integrated sun shield and Pinlock-ready face shield
- Communication system compatibility
- Multiple intake and exhaust vents for airflow
Simpson based the new helmet on the Mod Bandit platform to combine bold design with practical functionality. The company brings back forged carbon fibre, previously used on the Ghost Bandit, to enhance both visual appeal and performance.

Limited to 830 Units
The helmet will be limited to just 830 pieces, a nod to Buell’s founding year of 1983. Priority access will be granted to Buell email subscribers and Super Cruiser pre-order customers. It will later be available through Buell’s website and select dealerships.
A Multi-Year Collaboration
The Simpson x Buell Mod Bandit helmet marks the beginning of a multi-year partnership between two iconic American brands. With shared roots in racing and a commitment to rider-focused innovation, this release sets the tone for future collaborations that combine performance, heritage, and distinctive design.
