Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) marked a significant milestone on 23 July 2025, celebrating 25 years of operations in India with the launch of two all-new motorcycles: the CB125 Hornet and Shine 100 DX This landmark occasion coincides with HMSI achieving a cumulative production of 70 million units in India, while Honda globally hit the 500 million two-wheeler mark.
CB125 Hornet – Youthful & Tech-Savvy
- Engine & Performance: The CB125 Hornet is powered by a 123.94 cc fuel‑injected engine. It is capable of producing around 11 bhp and 11.2 Nm, paired with a 5-speed gearbox. It claims a class-topping 0–60 km/h sprint time of just 5.4 seconds and has a kerb weight of merely 124 kg.
- Premium Features: Segment-first golden USD front forks, all-LED lighting, petal disc brakes, single‑channel ABS. It also has USB Type‑C charging, and a 4.2‑inch Bluetooth-enabled TFT display featuring Honda RoadSync support.
- Target Audience: Aimed at Gen‑Z riders seeking a bold, aggressive street-bike design and advanced smartphone connectivity.
Shine 100 DX – Practical & Reliable
- Engine Specs: A 98.98 cc fuel-injected engine delivering 7.3 bhp and 8.04 Nm with a 4-speed gearbox. Meets OBD-II B emission norms.
- Commuter Comfort: Features include a digital LCD instrument cluster. It can show real-time mileage, distance-to-empty, service alerts, side-stand engine cutoff, and a longer, more comfortable seat.
- Safety & Practicality: Includes telescopic front forks, adjustable rear suspension. It also comes with Honda’s Combined Braking System (CBS), and 168 mm ground clearance, ideal for Indian roads.
Scaling Up Production
To support rising demand, HMSI is heavily investing in capacity expansion. A new Rs 920 crore (approx. RM 508 million) production line is underway at its Vithalapur plant in Gujarat. Set for operation by 2027, this addition will elevate the plant’s capacity to 2.61 million units per year, creating around 1,800 jobs. Collectively, HMSI aims to lift its annual output to 7 million units by 202.
