Kawasaki looks set to expand its lineup of 1,099cc motorcycles with the possible introduction of a Z1100, based on recent emissions filings in the United States. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has listed a model codenamed ZR1100HT, a naming format that strongly suggests an upcoming entry in the Z naked bike series.
This would mark the third model to receive Kawasaki’s latest 1,099cc inline-four engine. It first debuted in the 2025 Versys 1100 last October and later powered the Ninja 1000SX SE, unveiled during April’s Makina Moto Expo in the Philippines.
What the Filing Reveals—and What It Doesn’t
The CARB filing doesn’t give away much—just the model designation, engine displacement, and emissions compliance. But fans of Kawasaki’s naming patterns will remember that previous naked models like the Z1000 (ZR1000) followed a similar code structure. The new ZR1100HT fits perfectly into that lineage, pointing toward a likely successor to the now-discontinued Z1000.
As it stands, no official photos, specs, or features are available. But based on what we’ve seen with the Ninja 1000SX SE and Versys 1100, the Z1100 is likely to boast around 133 PS. This is a step up from the Z1000’s 118 horsepower, along with a refined chassis and a modern electronics suite.
What to Expect If the Z1100 Launches
Should Kawasaki follow the same update path as it did with the Ninja 1000 and Versys:
- Expect ride-by-wire throttle, multiple ride modes, and a comprehensive TFT display.
- Traction control, cornering ABS, and possibly electronic suspension could also make an appearance.
- Styling will likely follow Kawasaki’s Sugomi design language, with sharp, aggressive lines to match its naked sport heritage.
The Z1100 would naturally aim to compete against other big-displacement naked bikes like the Yamaha MT-10, Suzuki GSX-S1000, and Honda CB1000R.
The Return of a Legend?
Kawasaki hasn’t had a flagship Z model in this displacement range since the last Z1000 rolled out of showrooms. A new Z1100 would revive a legendary nameplate with fresh power and modern features, likely giving long-time fans and a new generation of riders. Something to get excited about.
No official launch date has been confirmed. With emissions filings already in the public domain, an announcement could be just around the corner.
