After missing both the Sprint and main race at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone, Trackhouse MotoGP Team’s Ai Ogura has undergone a successful minor surgery to treat a knee injury sustained in a heavy crash during Friday practice.
The Japanese rookie fell at high speed in Turn 2, initially sparking concerns of a fracture to the top of his right tibia. Ogura was quickly flown to Barcelona for further assessment, where an MRI scan confirmed a displaced bone fragment near the top of the tibia. Doctors performed a keyhole procedure on Monday to remove the fragment and stabilise the area.
In an official update, Trackhouse Racing shared that the 30-minute surgery went well, and Ogura has now started his rehabilitation process. The team remains cautiously optimistic that he could return in time for the upcoming Grand Prix of Aragon.
“Ai Ogura underwent a successful keyhole surgery procedure to repair a fracture to the top of his right tibia, just below the knee… Post-operative evaluation revealed a successful outcome and now Ai has commenced rehabilitation.”

Ogura also commented on his condition:
“The surgery is done. I think everything went quite well and I feel pretty OK with my knee. I just need a bit of time to get back to 100% fitness. It’s quite difficult and we will see if I can make it to Aragon… I will just do what I can and prepare for the next race.”
The Aragon GP is just over a week away, and while a final decision will be made closer to the event, Ogura’s return would be a significant boost for the Trackhouse squad. The team is not required to field a replacement if Ogura is unable to race, but an extended recovery could present logistical challenges, particularly as Aprilia’s test rider Lorenzo Savadori is already covering for the injured Jorge Martin in the factory team.
Ogura has had a promising rookie season aboard the satellite Aprilia, notching a best finish of fifth at the season opener in Thailand. Despite missing the British GP, he currently sits 12th in the riders’ standings with 43 points, just 13 points behind fellow rookie Fermin Aldeguer.
