Honda’s preparations for the 2024 MotoGP season have come under scrutiny. Joan Mir expressed disappointment over the absence of major innovations at recent Barcelona tests.
Team Manager Alberto Puig admitted uncertainty regarding a new bike. “I really don’t know yet,” Puig said cautiously. He hinted that significant updates might only be revealed in Thailand during the final pre-season test.
Honda’s Quest to Close the Gap
Puig emphasized the need to reduce the performance gap with rivals. He believes results will show on the stopwatch. “This is what I want us to do in the first half of the season,” Puig explained.
The lack of progress has raised concerns about Honda’s competitive edge. Puig acknowledged the urgency but remained noncommittal about immediate solutions.
Stable Rider Lineup Offers Hope
Joan Mir will continue as a Honda rider until 2026. His presence adds stability to the factory team. Luca Marini, another key figure, will ride with the team through 2025.
In the satellite team, Johann Zarco was Honda’s best qualifier this year. His performance stood out amid the challenges. LCR Honda will also welcome rookie Somkiat Chantra, making his MotoGP debut in 2024.
Looking Ahead with Honda
With Sepang tests approaching, pressure mounts on Honda to deliver improvements. Puig hopes to see progress early in the season. “The good thing about racing is that it’s math,” he said. “You can see the real difference.”
Honda faces a tough road ahead as the competition accelerates. Fans and critics alike await signs of innovation.
