Yamaha has announced the 2025 update for its highly popular YZF-R3 model, set to be unveiled at EICMA 2024 in Milan this November.
Known for dominating the 250/300cc class globally, the R3 has maintained the same design since its 2019 refresh. With the recent release of the Yamaha R9, the R3 is now due for its own significant upgrade, which could influence the appearance of the Malaysian R25 as well.
The 2025 Yamaha R3 will adopt a more aggressive and modern look, drawing styling inspiration from the R9. The updated model boasts a distinctive R-Series pedigree, featuring a new front fairing inspired by the aerodynamics of Yamaha’s YZR-M1 MotoGP race bike. The sleek side panels and new tail section with R-Series’ signature tail wing complete the dynamic, race-ready aesthetic.
A key addition to the 2025 R3 is a new LCD instrument cluster, offering smartphone connectivity along with vital vehicle information. A new USB-A port next to the display provides convenient charging for phones or heated gear, further enhancing rider convenience.
For the first time, the YZF-R3 will include an Assist & Slipper clutch. This system reduces engine braking during downshifts and decreases the amount of force required to pull the clutch lever, offering a smoother, more comfortable ride with less hand fatigue.
Despite the design and feature upgrades, the technical foundation of the R3 remains the same. It retains its steel frame and 321cc two-cylinder engine, producing 42 hp at 10,750 rpm and 29.5 Nm of torque at 9,000 rpm. This reliable powertrain continues to deliver a balanced mix of performance and control for riders.
The 2025 R3 will be available in three striking colour options: Team Yamaha Blue, Matte Stealth Black, and Lunar White/Nebula Blue. These updates bring a fresh, modernized look to the R3 and, by extension, are expected to influence the Malaysian R25 as well.
Full details on the R3 and its potential impact on the Malaysian market will be revealed at EICMA 2024 this November in Milan, Italy.
