Eligible Riders Can Now Apply for a B-Full License to Ride Motorcycles of Any Capacity at a Reduced Fee of RM160, Thanks to the Ministry of Transport’s Latest Initiative.

(UPDATED) Starting today, October 1st, Class B1 and B2 motorcycle license holders in Malaysia with over 10 years of active riding experience can apply for a full Class B license under a special transition program introduced by the Ministry of Transport (MOT).

This initiative allows eligible riders to upgrade to a full Class B license, enabling them to ride motorcycles of any capacity, lifting the restriction of 499cc that comes with a Class B1 license.

The transition fee has been reduced to RM160, a significant decrease from the previous cost of RM900. Applicants must complete a two-hour practical riding and safety program at the Driving Institute for motorcycles with 500cc and above.

Additionally, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced the merger of Class B1 and Class B licenses due to the low demand for B1 licenses, meaning Class B1 will no longer be offered at driving schools starting today.

Meanwhile, current B1 license holders have the option to either retain their existing license or participate in the special transition program to obtain a Class B license.

Here is a summary of the motorcycle license categories in Malaysia:

  • B: For motorcycles over 500cc
  • B1: For motorcycles below 500cc
  • B2: For motorcycles below 250cc

The 2024 motorcycle license fee structure is as follows:

  • B2 license (250cc below) – RM350 to RM450
  • B full license (500cc above) – RM900 to RM1100

Interested riders can check their eligibility for the transition program via:

  • The JPJ Public Portal
  1. Click  Public Login
  2. To log in, select the individual category and use the identification card number as a user ID and MyJPJ password.
  3. Click the “Driver’s License” option in the drop-down menu and select “CDL class B full Transition Special Program Eligibility.”
  • The MyJPJ app
  1. Open the MyJPJ application (if you don’t have it, please download it)

Step-by-Step Guide to Upgrading from B1 or B2 License to B Full License

1. Check Eligibility:

Ensure you meet the requirements for the license upgrade. Once verified, proceed to the next steps.

2. Register at a Driving School:

Visit any selected driving school and register for the program. During registration, you’ll need to make a health declaration.

3. Self-Declaration of Health:

Applicants must fill out a form confirming their physical and mental health. This is a self-declaration form, stating you are fit for riding high-powered motorcycles.

4. Attend the Transition and Adaptation Program:

Applicants must attend and pass a transition program focused on high-powered motorcycles (500cc and above) at a driving institute. The program includes:

  •    Riding practice
  •    Safe driving information
  •    Handling high-powered motorcycles

Note: The practical session lasts 2 hours.

5. Practical Test Assessment:

After completing the program, a Certified Trained Officer from JPJ will assess your eligibility to upgrade your license from B1/B2 to B Full.

6. Fees:

The total fee for this special program is RM160, which includes RM10 for JPJ.

7. If You Fail:

  •    Applicants who fail the 2-hour training will need to retake the session at the same RM160 fee.
  •    You are only allowed to take the practical test once per day. If you fail, you must repeat the test on a different day.

List of Full Class B Driving Licenses All over Malaysia

As of October 3, 2024, there are 139 Driving Institutes nationwide that provide a Special Driving Licence Transition Program for a Full Class B Transition Program.

Congratulations to those who are eligible! For those who aren’t, don’t be discouraged, as you can still wait for your license to mature over the course of 10 years or go through the regular B-Full license process with standard fees.

Ultimately, the choice is yours. If you’re planning to upgrade to a higher cc motorcycle, this program might be worth considering if you meet the eligibility criteria.

If you’re in the market for a second-hand, higher cc bike, feel free to visit our main website or stop by our showroom in Glenmarie, Shah Alam, to explore a wide range of brands and models available for you!
