The highly anticipated 45th Coca-Cola Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance Race, part of the FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC), promises to be one of the best yet, according to Jean-Baptiste Ley, Motorsport Series Leader at WBD Sports Europe.
As per FIMEWC News, Ley highlighted several key features of this year’s race, which runs from July 19-21 in Japan, emphasizing its significance within the EWC season. “The EWC’s annual visit to Japan for the Suzuka 8 Hours is a real highlight of any EWC season,” Ley said. “But the 45th edition of this iconic race is particularly significant – and it could be the best yet.”
For the first time, the Suzuka 8 Hours will be a round of the FIM Endurance World Cup, allowing European Superstock teams to compete at this legendary venue.
Ley expressed gratitude to Honda Mobilityland Corporation for making this possible and congratulated Suzuki Motor Corporation, Yoshimura SERT, and their partners for their Carbon Neutral Challenge, which features a bike using 40 percent biofuel and other sustainable products.
Exciting Developments and Intense Competition
Ley also noted the addition of Honda MotoGP star Johann Zarco, adding intrigue to the event. The competition returns to Japan with just one point separating YART Yamaha and Yoshimura SERT Motul, both of which have won races this season, setting the stage for an intense battle at Suzuka.
“The Suzuka 8 Hours is fundamentally a celebration of all that is fantastic about the Japanese motorcycle industry,” Ley added, acknowledging the participation of major manufacturers Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, and Yamaha in the EWC.
Successful Free Test Session
The free test session preceding the race saw intense preparation from teams and riders. Zarco and the HRC-Japan Post team performed brilliantly, setting a fastest time of 2:06.746 in the first session on 17th July.
At the same time, YART Yamaha regained dominance in subsequent sessions, unsettled weather, including heavy rain, added to the challenges.
National Riders and Main Teams to Watch
This weekend’s race will see 46 machines start the competition, including national riders such as Hafizh Syahrin with the Ducati Team Kagayama, Zaqhwan Zaidi with Honda Team Asia-Dream Racing with Astemo, Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman with Frontier Team, and Helmi Azman with Team Honda Blue Helmets MSC Kumamoto & Asaka.
Main teams like YART, SERT, Ducati Kagayama, and HRC are expected to battle fiercely in the race. As the competition heats up, fans can look forward to an exciting and action-packed Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance Race.
