Two-time world champion Francesco Bagnaia of the Ducati Lenovo Team put together the perfect race on Sunday, securing victory at the Liqui Moly Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland and taking control of the Championship.
The Italian rider celebrated his 4th consecutive win and marked his 200th GP in style with a surprise P1 finish at the Sachsenring.
Marc Marquez of Gresini Racing MotoGP also made headlines with a phenomenal comeback. Starting from P13, Marquez navigated through a drama-filled Grand Prix to claim a historic second place.
Alex Marquez, also from Gresini Racing MotoGP, took the final spot on the podium, making history alongside his brother Marc as the first siblings to share a premier class podium since 1997.
Meanwhile, Jorge Martin of Prima Pramac Racing missed the checkered flag after crashing out of the lead with just two laps to go. This allowed Bagnaia to return to the top of the overall rider ranking with a 10-point advantage over the closest challenger, dropping Martin to second place.
Pecco now has 24 MotoGP wins with Ducati, making him the Borgo Panigale manufacturer’s most successful rider.
Fourth place went to the late-charging Bastianini, who finished ahead of Morbidelli after an incredible on-track battle. Morbidelli was just 0.240s behind Bastianini but managed to cross the line ahead of Oliveira in sixth.
The #88, Miguel Oliveira, was the top Aprilia on Sunday, finishing ahead of Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3), who secured a solid seventh place. Acosta finished ahead of Marco Bezzecchi (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team).
Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) had an action-packed Grand Prix, narrowly missing out on P8 and finishing ninth. The final spot in the top 10 went to Trackhouse Racing’s Raul Fernandez, who dropped back after starting from third.
Now it’s time for the summer break before the legendary Monster Energy British Grand Prix returns on August 2nd, where we will see if Martin can reclaim his title lead.
