Father’s Day is a time to honour the men who have shaped our lives with their love, guidance, and wisdom. It’s a day to reflect on the journey of fatherhood and celebrate the moments that make it so meaningful. Here, we share heartfelt reflections from fathers about the special moments with their children, the lessons they’ve learned, and how fatherhood has transformed them.
What’s a special moment you’ve shared with your child that always brings a smile to your face?
Gil: Their birth.
Umair: To say a specific moment I can’t, but what’s brought a smile to me is whenever I arrive home from work, they are there to greet me.
Chitesh: Both my kids’ first words were “dadda.”
Aniq: There are many things that my daughter did that put a smile on my face when I recall them. But one that never fails to make me a proud dad is when I get back from work and my daughter crawls towards me and asks to be carried and hugged. Thinking of this day always makes me smile.
What’s one thing you’ve learned about yourself since becoming a father?
Gil: I think children have a lot to teach their parents too. I have learned that firsthand.
Umair: You need to be mentally and physically ready for everything. Always think from your child’s perspective.
Chitesh: Unconditional love.
Aniq: Time flies, and time is more precious than any valuable treasure. Since becoming a father, I have learned a lot about time management and work-life balance. I do believe that spending time with family strengthens everyone’s support system, especially my strong emotional bond with my kids.
How do you think being a father has changed you as a person?
Gil: It brings a whole new perspective on caring for others, gives you a greater sense of belonging and responsibility towards others.
Umair: Everything you do, you need to think of them.
Chitesh: Being in the present and finding the joy in every moment.
Aniq: To be a father means that no matter how young or old you are, you are always there for your kids. As a father, I have become more sensitive, particularly when it comes to children. I have also become selfless and constantly give, and I don’t expect anything back.
