Miguel Oliveira debuted in 2020 at the Styria GP in the MotoGP category. A race earlier in Austrian GP, the # 88 crashed after contact with Pol Espargaró, at the time the KTM factory pilot. Miguel Oliveira, in the Tech3 colours won the second race in Spielberg.

Watching the footage of the last lap of this second Austrian GP on motogp.com, Oliveira recalled his win and explained his approach on the most decisive lap of that particular weekend. ‘Winning a race after having had an accident with teammate Pol [Espargaró] the week before and reaching the second weekend and winning at the home of all the sponsors was unbelievable, with the added aspect of having won a car [laughs]. I couldn’t have chosen a better Grand Prix to win’, said Oliveira. According to the driver from Almada, this decisive lap was one of the best of his entire career: – This last lap was one of the best last laps of my entire life. […] I think at this braking point [at turn three], Pol widened a bit [the trajectory] because he was protecting his line. I thought: “ok, these two are going to battle and I want to be as close as possible to be able to take advantage”. Jack passed Pol and said: “ok I’ll stay close enough […]”. On the first left, I got as close as I could, and for what was left of the lap I tried to stay close. In the penultimate corner, I said: “ok, this won’t end here and I won’t finish third”. Miguel Oliveira stated that he anticipated the braking point of his competition before overtaking them in the last corner, and hence had a better exit from that corner than his direct competition: – At the last braking point, I braked much earlier and only carried enough cornering speed to overtake both riders.
