The next-gen Yamaha Y15ZR / Yamaha Exciter RC with an updated design and VVA engine has been spotted testing! Is this the upcoming 2021 Yamaha Y15ZR V3/ Yamaha Exciter RC 155 VVA V3?
Earlier in May, we came across a few leaked pictures of the upcoming Exciter 155 RC VVA aka Yamaha Y15ZR in Malaysia, MX King in Indonesia and Yamaha Sniper in the Philippines. The leaked pictures circulated all over the internet with the caption ” 1 unit of Y15ZR V3 arrived in Hong Leong Yamaha for testing”; however, we thought it was just a bluff. Later in July, reports from Vietnam suggested Yamaha is planning on launching the “new updated” Exciter RC on the same month, however, it ended up being a false claim. A week later reports from Indonesia and Thailand suggested Yamaha would pull the cover off the updated Exciter RC and Y15ZR V3 in 2021. Well, here is something that supports this claim.
The Latest Spy Shot
So many ups and downs, but this latest spy shot is something that we have been waiting to see for some time now. The latest spy shot showcases Yamaha’s upcoming Y15ZR sports moped undergoing thorough road test in Malaysia! So the arrival of an updated Y15ZR is confirmed but is this the upcoming Yamaha Y15ZR V3 with 155cc VVA engine and keyless?
Yamaha Y15ZR V3 Specifications (Speculation)
Looking at the spy shots, here are a few things we can conclude. To begin with, the bike that was spotted looks very similar to the leaked pictures we came across earlier. The bodywork looks more sporty and features updated lights all around. Although we can’t guarantee; we think Yamaha might standardise the design and specs of the bike across the Asian region, so readers from Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines, take note.
Given the bike in the spy shots matches the profile of the bike from the previous leaks, it’s safe to assume the upcoming Yamaha Y15ZR V3 would most likely feature keyless ignition and an updated instrument cluster. – Again, we are speculating at this point.
Speaking of the engine, judging from the fairing around the engine, engine cover and the mill itself; it looks like the upcoming Y15ZR V3 would feature the same 155cc VVA (variable valve actuation) engine with a 6-speed gearbox like the R15 and MT15. Another feature that stands out is the braking unit. We can see a two-piston calliper at the front which replaces the single-piston calliper from the current generation.
The Launch
As the bike is already undergoing thorough testing; we think Yamaha will introduce the newly updated sports moped by 2021! Yay or nay? Tell us what you think in the comment section below!
