Kawasaki EV Project: The first video of the electric Ninja

Kawasaki revealed at the EICMA Milan Motorcycle Show an electric concept known as EV Project. The electric Ninja is already testing on track!

During the recent Milan Motorcycle Show, Kawasaki stunned everyone with their electric concept. The EV Project is the first step in the electric future of the Ninja family. The test bike is already on track testing sessions, and the video shows the new electric Ninja.

This electric Ninja will be 100% made by Kawasaki. It will get interesting features like a manual transmission. Kawasaki believes riders need to have a manual gearbox to feel better when riding electric motorcycles.

The Kawasaki EV Project uses a brushless electric motor. At the moment Kawasaki hasn’t released any performance figures on this engine. And regarding the batteries, the Japanese manufacturer is also keeping everything in secret.

The tubular frame and the rest of the chassis components seem to be the same as the Ninja 650.

Yoshimoto Matsuda, Kawasaki R&D director, said at the Milan Motorcycle Show that “The electric bike that you see here features a next-gen engine. It’s something we’ve been working on since the early 2000s, together with the supercharged engines. We’ve been studying some special features like the regenerative braking activated by the thumb. Some of these features will be used in our new motorcycles”.

Just a few days after revealing the EV Project at EICMA, Kawasaki releases a video of the prototype going through a track session.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
