Ducati builds 100.000th Multistrada

Ducati builds 100.000th Multistrada

The bike from Borgo Panigale that does everything hits a milestone. Ducati builds 100.000th Multistrada and announces de arrival of the V4 variant.

It’s been a long time since Ducati decided to introduce the Multistrada. It was back in 2003 when the Multistrada 1000 DS hit the road. Now, sixteen years later, the Ducati Multistrada hits an important milestone as Ducati builds 100.000th Multistrada.

The 100.000th Multistrada to roll off the production line in Borgo Panigale is a Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak. The happy owner is Dave Hayward, a German biker that bought the bike from the Ducati Düsseldorf dealership. He got the bike from the hands of Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali.

Because this is a special bike, Ducati decided to make this Multistrada Pikes Peak a one of a kind. The upper triple clamp was laser engraved with a special logo.

The Multistrada has been a special bike for Ducati. In 2010, under the “Four bikes into one” campaign, the Multistrada was the first bike to feature different riding modes. In 2014 the Multistrada D|air was the first bike to interact with a motorcycle jacket fitted with an airbag.

Just a year later Ducati announced the arrival of the Multistrada DVT. This bike featured the first generation of the Testastretta engine with variable valve timing.

But the Multistrada is also a bike that shows how Ducati has been able to improve the reliability of their engines. The first Multistrada 1200 had short maintenance intervals. Now, the latest Multistrada 1260 has the valve adjustment at 30.000 km!

But not only the Multistrada is a name that takes us back in time to early 2000’s, but it’s also a name that will take Ducati into the future.

The Borgo Panigale based manufacturer announced that we will get a new Multistrada by 2021. This bike won’t be using the current twin-cylinder engine. Instead, the Multistrada V4 will get the Desmosedici Stradale engine from the Panigale V4.

The power and torque will be lower, but the Multistrada V4 will benefit from this new engine and offer better performance and riding pleasure.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
