The Spanish Grand Prix has closed its veil after an exciting weekend in Jerez. Repsol Honda continues its great run as Marc Marquez becomes the first repeat premier class winner of 2019. The Spaniard was crowned champion in his hometown race. Teammate and compatriot Jorge Lorenzo came in at 12th place to gain some points for the team. The atmosphere in the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto was lit up with a great number of fans. The decibels of the crowd got higher at every lap as the racers battle their way to the chequered flag. Jerez was at 21°C with a track temperature of 42°C, providing a great racing condition for the racers.

As the flags went down, Marc Marquez stormed off the grid to lead the field through the opening corners. He then maintained his lead and gradually built his advantage over other racers lap by lap. The 26-year-old continued his impressive performance until the end to clinch his title with a record of 41’08.685. He secured a gap of a total of 1.654s ahead of second place Alex Rins of Team Suzuki Ecstar. Jorge Lorenzo, on the other hand, encountered some challenges in the race as he is still working with the setting of his bike. Honda is currently at the top of the standings with a total of 76 points. The MotoGP Championship will be making its next stop in the Bugatti Circuit for the French Grand Prix on May 17 to 19.

“This race was a mental race, more than a physical one. After the mistake in Austin it wasn’t easy to lead the race like that from beginning to end, but I knew I had the pace to do it and the bike to do it. I wanted to do a race like in Argentina and at the start in Austin to prove it was a mistake there. I felt good all weekend, smooth, comfortable and able to ride how I want. Thanks to the Repsol Honda Team, they’ve done an amazing job over the last few weeks and here this weekend. It’s great to be leading the championship again,” says Marquez as quoted from Honda Racing.

“It has been a difficult end to the weekend, we wanted to be stronger but I am still not comfortable on the bike. We are still lacking kilometres compared to the other Honda riders. Today especially I was not comfortable on the bike and it was a very difficult race. Tomorrow’s test will be important for us to try and improve my feeling, especially on corner entry where I think I am losing the most.
