A new Aprilia 150 cc sportbike will begin testing in India to be ready to hit the dealerships by 2020 and increase the brand market share in India.
The Piaggio Group has its grip on one of the most iconic Italian brands: Aprilia. But sometimes it seems they don’t really know what to do with Aprilia. Well, now the Piaggio Group seems to have come up with a new strategy for Aprilia in the Asian market.
According to an interview given by Diego Graffi, Piaggio Group managing director, the Italian brand seeks to grow its market share in India and other Asian countries.
To reach that goal Aprilia has started the development of a new family of 150 cc bikes. Based on their European 125 cc versions, these bikes will arrive at the Asian markets by 2020. The main focus of Aprilia is to develop a new sportbike. The RS 150 is already testing in India.
Diego Graffi admitted that “having a brand like Aprilia and not playing in the motorcycle market is unaffordable. It can help us expand our motorcycle portfolio as well as powertrain options, and thus, investing in Aprilia is a must”.
In Asian countries, Aprilia is known for their flagship bikes. The RSV4 is one of the best superbikes out there. But until now the Noale factory didn’t have a strong portfolio on the lower displacement bikes. But by 2020 that might change with the arrival of the new RS 150.
