Since becoming Royal Enfield CEO, Siddhartha Lal has turned the Indian company from a business that was losing money, into a business that is dominating the motorcycle market in India as well as becoming one of the hottest brands in the global market. Now that their latest models Interceptor and Continental 650 have conquered the critics and riders, Siddharta Lal has its sights set on becoming even more global, but always with India in his heart.
In an interview to Spanish website Solomoto, Royal Enfield CEO spoke about the objectives his company has for the next few years, saying that we can expect many new bikes from Royal Enfield to be sold globally, but just as long they sell well in India
“We will build more models to be sold worldwide, particularly using the new twin engine, but always taking into account they need to be sold in India as well. Thinking like this, it will allow us to get the profits to build new modern plants, and that will allow us to increase production, and then the capacity to design new models”.
Royal Enfield annual numbers have been beating records: In 2016/2017 they’ve built a total of 666.490 motorcycles, in 2017/2018 that number increased to 820.492, and the expectation is that at the end of 2018/2019 the total Royal Enfield’s produced might reach a total of 950.000 units!
Up until now, 95% of Royal Enfield’s production is destined to the Indian market, but Siddhartha Lal expects that the new models they’re developing, and starting with the new Interceptor 650 and Continental 650, might turn Royal Enfield into a big player in European and American markets.
