Norton begins production of the exotic V4 SS

Norton begins production of the exotic V4 SS

December 17, 2018

Iconic British brand Norton has announced that they’ve started producing the new V4 SS, at the factory in Donington Hall. This exotic sportbike will be the most technologically advanced motorcycle ever to be produced by Norton for road use, but the technical specifications don’t lie: This is a true race bike.

With only 200 units planned for production, the V4 SS will have its production divided, with the first 100 for the British market, while in April 2019 Norton will conclude the Euro4 homologation and the other 100 V4 SS will then be sold outside England starting May.

This new V4 SS will count on a race derived V4 engine. At 72º in angle, the V4 has a displacement of 1200 cc, obviously is liquid cooled, so the power will be of well over the 200 hp mark. Unlike other models from Norton, this engine has been designed by them at the Donington Hall factory. The engine itself features race technology, but what might catch your attention is the beautiful aluminium handmade frame, derived from the race machine Norton has used in road racing and Isle of Man, the SG5 TT.

And speaking of technology, as we said before, the V4 SS is the most advanced Norton motorcycle ever for the road. Using a new six axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), the bike features adjustable traction control, launch control, quickshift for clutchless up and downshifts, riding modes and for those that like to analyze their riding trips, Norton also includes a full race derived onboard telemetry system, just like the one they use on the Isle of Man race bike.

But as this is a road bike, Norton has also thought about your comfort, and they’ve added cruise-control to the V4 SS, so you don’t bother keeping your hand on the throttle while riding on motorways.

Carbon fiber fairings are also included, and can be painted in chrome paint or kept black, while the wheels are also made in the same lightweight material, and suspension units are sourced from Öhlins, a NIX30 front fork and a TTX GP rear shock made to measure for this sportbike.

European prices point to a price tag of 51.000 euros for the V4 SS, which is around RM241.511, while later in 2019 Norton will be releasing a more accessible and simple variant, the V4 RR, which is expected to cost RM151.530, but without the exotic specs of the SS variant.

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
