Kymco SuperNEX concept is Kymco’s vision for a futuristic superbike

Kymco SuperNEX concept is Kymco’s vision for a futuristic superbike

At EICMA Milan, Kymco, by the hand of its president Mr Allen Ko, presented a truly fantastic concept that was teased a few days ago in a video iMotorbike published on a separate article. The concept SuperNEX is what Kymco believes to be the future of superbike motorcycles.

Of course, we’re talking about an electric bike, but in the case of the SuperNEX, includes a key feature: a six-speed gearbox.

This manual gearbox, featuring a slipper clutch to prevent the back wheel from blocking while downshifting in an aggressive manner, is, according to Kymco, the key to let the riders enjoy the power of an electric superbike in all its glory, without feeling too awkward like when riding fully automatic electric bikes.

The company based in Taiwan hasn’t released the figures for power, torque or range of the electric battery, but they’ve said during the EICMA reveal that the SuperNEX will be able to reach 100 km/h in just 2,9 seconds, the 200 km/h in 7,5 seconds and 250 km/h are reached in just 10,9 seconds!

Fitted with top spec components from Brembo or Öhlins, the SuperNEX promises sporty handling through the use of a sturdy aluminium double beam frame and swingarm, while Kymco’s Full Engagement Performance system will control all electronic riding aids like traction control or the rear-wheel mitigation function during hard braking.

And what about the sound of the engine?

Well, Allen Ko and his team of engineers have also thought about that, and the SuperNEX has a sound system installed that not only replicates the sound of a combustion engine, but it will also allow the rider to choose which type of engine sound he will be listening every time he rides, enhancing the emotion of riding a motorcycle.

Given all these features, Is the Kymco SuperNEX the electric bike we’ve been waiting for?

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
