Ducati is working on the next generation of its powercruiser Diavel, and after some spy shots where we couldn’t see the new bike in all its glory, this time around British website Morebikes published photos of the 2019 Diavel during road testing.
Although the test mule is still covered in those confusing graphics so that we can’t see all the details, the truth is that the next generation of this powecruiser will be even more powerful and ride even better than before, especially through corners.
The engine powering the new Diavel is the Testatretta DVT version, with 1262 cc and 156 hp, a unit taken from the XDiavel we already know. Using Desmodromic Variable Timing, this engine offers smoothness at lower speeds but also a powerful character when the rider wants to push the Diavel to its limits, and at the same time, the Testastretta DVT engine doesn’t need so much gasoline like the previous version.
To be able to use this updated engine, Ducati has revised the chassis geometry, especially noticeable at the rear end with increased ride height on the rear shock, while the steel tubular frame gets new fixing points for the twin-cylinder engine.
The bike was previewed to some special guests at the recent World Ducati Week in Misano, and also features a heavily revised exhaust system, similar to the one used on the XDiavel but with different end tips, that is supposed to offer better handling and, of course, a better and sporty sound.
We expect this bike to be shown in EICMA, Milan, in November, but there’s also the chance that Ducati opts to show the new Diavel standard version in Cologne during the INTERMOT and leave the up-spec S version for Milan.
