In case you missed out, Ducati and Hero MotoCorp are setting sights to develop a new 300cc motorcycle. Ducati will be expanding their production in Asia starting with India, its aim is to ensure sustained growth in the nation and to enter the base end of the premium spectrum that has garnered the attention of many bike enthusiasts.
The global partnerships such as the Bajaj and KTM duo has produced many benefits considering KTM’s acquisition and the cooperation between BMW Motorrad and TVS has balanced international and domestic demands to maintain a stable production. Apart from that, it is said that American top gun Harley-Davidson will be seeking an Asian partner and will likely come from India, considering the big potential in the market.
With that being said, the Italian manufacturer will be working with Hero MotoCorp, which is India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer. Hero is certainly a cult favourite mainstream brand. Ducati and Hero will be making full use out of their shared platform. Hero will benefit in terms of its current lack of presence in the premium sector whereas Ducati bikes made locally by Hero would be exported for increased profitability. According to reports, the two have developed a single-cylinder liquid-cooled fuel-injected engine to power a new motorcycle with 300cc displacement.
The partnership is likely to result to two new motorcycles with powertrain, transmission and other identical mechanicals. One of the models would likely be inspired by the Scrambler series and the other would resemble a Multistrada.
