Jorge Martin has addressed growing speculation linking him to a potential Yamaha MotoGP move for the 2027 season, offering his first public response to the rumors during the Sepang test week.

The former MotoGP world champion is heading into the final year of his contract with Aprilia, following a challenging period marked by injuries and uncertainty. Last season proved turbulent for the Spaniard, as a strained relationship with the Italian manufacturer emerged after Martin attempted to activate an exit clause that could have opened the door to a 2026 switch, reportedly with Honda.

Although Martin has since committed to seeing out his Aprilia deal, his name continues to feature prominently in discussions surrounding the 2027 rider market. Recent reports suggesting that Fabio Quartararo may have signed with Honda have further fuelled speculation, with Martin emerging as a possible candidate to fill a future vacancy at Yamaha.

“I really want to focus on Aprilia,” says Martin

Speaking to MotoGP’s After the Flag at Sepang—where he was present but not riding due to recent surgeries—Martin acknowledged the reports but played down their significance.

“I’ve seen it,” Martin said when asked about the Yamaha rumours. “It’s funny how early these rumours are starting. As a fan, I used to enjoy trying to guess which rider would move where.”

He stressed that his immediate priority remains with Aprilia and the upcoming season.
“If I’m here at this test, it’s because I want to stay focused on Aprilia. My goal is to concentrate on the 2026 season and help improve the project.”

While Martin confirmed that discussions about his long-term future are ongoing, he made it clear that he is not in a rush to make any decisions.
“Part of my team is working on my future, but we’ll see what happens,” he added.

When asked whether he has set a deadline to secure his next contract, Martin remained relaxed about the situation.
“I don’t really mind. The market is moving quickly, and things are changing fast. We’ll see what happens in the next few weeks.”

Injury recovery nearing its final stages

Aprilia confirmed earlier this year that Martin would sit out the Sepang test after undergoing two surgeries late last year on existing injuries. The rider has since revealed that doctors initially suggested postponing the procedures until early 2026, a plan he ultimately rejected.

“I wanted to close this chapter in 2025,” Martin explained. “Last year was a nightmare.”

The Spaniard underwent surgery on both his hand and collarbone, bringing his total to six operations during the 2025 season. Despite the setbacks, Martin remains optimistic about his recovery.

“I finally see the light,” he said. “I’m not at 100% yet, but I will be. Last year I had to ride with a lot of pain, and it wasn’t easy.”

Martin believes that once fully fit, he will be able to return to his best form and compete at the front once again.
“There’s no option but to fight until I’m back winning,” he concluded.
