Two decades after it first disrupted the motorcycle world, Ducati has officially revived its most iconic street hooligan machine with the launch of the all-new Hypermotard V2 and higher-spec V2 SP. Unveiled at EICMA, the 2026 Hypermotard V2 marks a major reinvention, bringing a newly engineered 890 cc V-twin engine, cutting-edge electronics, significant weight reduction, and styling inspired by the original 2005 prototype.

At the core of the new Hypermotard V2 is a thoroughly redesigned 890 cc twin-cylinder engine. Though smaller in displacement than the previous 937 cc Testastretta 11°, the new powerplant is six kilograms lighter and delivers stronger, more responsive performance. This is the same V2 engine architecture used in models like the Panigale V2, Streetfighter V2, Multistrada V2, and Monster, but tuned specifically for the Hypermotard’s aggressive supermoto DNA.

One of the biggest engineering changes is Ducati’s move away from the traditional Desmodromic valve system for its liquid-cooled engines. The new setup drastically improves service intervals, with valve clearance checks now required every 45,000 km and oil changes every 15,000 km or two years. The result is a machine that not only performs harder but is easier to maintain.

Visually, Ducati blends heritage and futurism. The Hypermotard V2 carries unmistakable elements from the original 1100: the high twin exhausts under the tail, minimalist rear bodywork, double-wing tank, and slim, aggressive front profile. At the same time, the motorcycle adopts a sharper, more technical design language, paired with a new aluminum monocoque frame that uses the engine as a stressed component for added rigidity and reduced mass. The trellis sub-frame remains, maintaining a classic Ducati aesthetic while supporting a more dynamic and agile ride.

Riding ergonomics stay true to the iconic supermoto stance, offering wide handlebars, a narrow chassis, a forward riding position, and a grippy seat for maximum control. With the new chassis and lightweight wheels, the Hypermotard V2 drops substantial weight, coming in at 180 kg for the standard model and 177 kg for the SP, up to 14 kg lighter than the outgoing Hypermotard 950. Fuel capacity remains at 12.5 litres, while seat height sits at 880 mm.

Ducati equips the standard model with fully adjustable Kayaba front forks, a rear monoshock adjustable for preload and rebound, and a Sachs steering damper. The SP variant goes further, offering Öhlins NIX 30 fully adjustable forks, an Öhlins STX 36 rear monoshock, lighter forged wheels, and a special 20th-anniversary racing livery. These enhancements not only improve precision and agility but also reduce unsprung mass for faster steering responses and improved stability.

Electronics take a major leap forward, with a suite powered by a 6-axis IMU. The Hypermotard V2 packs Cornering ABS, Ducati Traction Control, Ducati Wheelie Control, Engine Brake Control, and the latest Ducati Quickshifter 2.0, all working together to refine performance and safety.

Four selectable riding modes; Race, Sport, Road, and Rain (limited to 95 hp), allow riders to tailor the bike to their environment. Exclusive to the SP variant are Ducati Power Launch and a pit lane limiter, underlining its track-focused lineage. A new 5-inch TFT display completes the cockpit with modern graphics and multiple interface themes.

The return of the Hypermotard is more than nostalgia, it is a bold rebirth. With a lighter chassis, sharper handling, a new-generation V2 engine, longer maintenance intervals, and superbike-level electronics, the 2026 Ducati Hypermotard V2 firmly reclaims its status as the ultimate supermoto-inspired street machine. Ducati has not just revived a legend, it has evolved it for a new era of riders.
