After securing second in the MotoGP World Championship, Alex Marquez delivers a flawless performance at Sepang to take his third win of the season ahead of Pedro Acosta and Joan Mir.

After sealing his runner-up spot in the 2025 MotoGP World Championship on Saturday, Alex Marquez put on a masterclass at Sepang International Circuit, storming to victory in the Malaysian MotoGP with a commanding lead of 2.6 seconds over Pedro Acosta. The win marks Marquez’s third victory of the season and his first outside of Spain, following triumphs at the Spanish and Catalan Grands Prix.

Completing an all-Spanish podium, Joan Mir claimed a remarkable third place after capitalising on Francesco Bagnaia’s misfortune. The Ducati Lenovo Team rider, who started from pole and won Saturday’s sprint race, was forced to retire in the closing laps due to a technical issue while running in third position.

Despite a challenging start to the weekend, Marquez said his team’s strategy and determination paid off. “Today I changed my approach at the start of the race, as yesterday I got it wrong, as I attacked and did what I aimed to do. We had a great race and achieved the goal of becoming the best independent team from the top of the podium; now we’ll enjoy these last two races.”

Marquez also expressed his concern for Moto3 riders Jose Antonio Rueda and Noah Dettwiler, who were involved in a frightening collision during the sighting lap earlier in the day. Both riders were airlifted to hospital but were reported to be conscious. “My prayers and thoughts are with the Moto3 guys,” Marquez added.

At the start of the race, Bagnaia led the field under hot and humid conditions, with Acosta and Marquez closely following. Marquez wasted no time, overtaking Bagnaia on the second lap and maintaining control of the race from that point onward. Acosta eventually overtook Bagnaia for second on lap 13 but couldn’t catch Marquez, who crossed the finish line in 40 minutes 09.249 seconds.

Franco Morbidelli and Fabio Quartararo rounded out the top five, while Joan Mir’s podium marked a welcome return to form for Honda.

With this win, Alex Marquez wraps up a stellar weekend and solidifies his status as one of the standout performers of the 2025 MotoGP season, a fitting end to the flyaway stretch and a proud moment for the Gresini Racing team.
