Jose Antonio Rueda, racing for Red Bull KTM Ajo had secured the 2025 Moto3 World Championship in stunning fashion, taking victory at the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia after a red-flag brought the race to an early end. The result capped off a tense and action-packed race in Lombok that saw multiple penalties and crashes shake up the podium order.

Initially, it was Joel Kelso (LEVELUP-MTA) who launched into the lead from Turn 1, ahead of David Muñoz (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) and Adrian Fernandez (Leopard Racing). Rueda, meanwhile, slipped to P13 by the end of Lap 1, with title rival Angel Piqueras (FRINSA – MT Helmets – MSI) climbing quickly to P6. By Lap 2, Piqueras was already P4 and pushing toward the leaders, while Fernandez and Maximo Quiles (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team) swapped places at the front.

Drama unfolded early when Kelso crashed out on Lap 5, ending his podium hopes. By Lap 7, Quiles took over the lead, with Rueda charging through the field into P6. The title picture began to tilt in Rueda’s favour as he moved into P3 by the halfway point, putting himself in a championship-winning position while Piqueras faded to P9.

Rueda grabbed the race lead from Fernandez on Lap 13, maintaining control as chaos erupted behind him. A multi-rider crash involving Alvaro Carpe, David Almansa, and Taiyo Furusato on Lap 14 was followed by long-lap penalties for both Quiles and Piqueras for cutting Turn 9. From there, Rueda only needed to keep his composure – something he’s done all season long.

With just three laps to go, Muñoz briefly reclaimed the lead before a collision with Fernandez at Turn 10 sent the #64 rider off track. Rueda retook the lead shortly after, moments before the red flag was waved.

Post-race penalties reshuffled the order: Fernandez received a double Long Lap penalty, while Quiles was handed a three-second penalty for failing to complete his in time. That confirmed Rueda as the race winner and 2025 Moto3 World Champion, with Luca Lunetta (SIC58 Squadra Corse) taking second and Guido Pini (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) celebrating his maiden podium in third.

Jacob Roulstone (Red Bull KTM Tech3) achieved a career-best finish in fourth, followed by Fernandez in sixth and Piqueras in seventh – officially ending his title hopes.

Rueda’s triumph adds another milestone to a remarkable career that began with him becoming the first rider to win both the Red Bull Rookies Cup and JuniorGP in the same year. With consistency, speed, and composure, the young Spaniard has more than delivered on his early promise, taking the crown in his sophomore Moto3 season.

Jose Antonio Rueda: “Incredible. I have dreamed of this day since I was six years old. It is hard to find the correct words but I want to thank my parents for everything they have done for me and for teaching me the right way about life. Also, to everybody that has helped me along the way and from the beginning of this journey. I’m so happy right now.”

Jacob Roulstone: “Very pleased with my race! I think I did the best first few laps of my career, and I am very happy with our start. I struggled a bit from mid-race with the front tire because I attacked a lot at the start, so maybe I cooked it a bit too much. Messy race, the hottest and most challenging one, but I am really happy, and relieved, to score a top 5.”

Next up, Moto3 heads to Australia with the championship decided, but pride and podiums still to play for as the 2025 season races toward its finale.
