Suzuki appears ready to expand its middleweight lineup with two new sport-touring motorcycles, the GSX-8T and GSX-8TT, as revealed through filings with the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Based on the GSX-8R platform, these upcoming machines are expected to retain the same 776 cc parallel-twin engine while offering ergonomics and features more suited to long-distance touring.

Powerplant and Performance

Both the GSX-8T and GSX-8TT will carry over the 776 cc parallel-twin engine found in the GSX-8R and GSX-8S. That means:

  • 81 hp @ 8,500 rpm
  • 78 Nm @ 6,800 rpm

This powertrain has already proven itself to be both smooth and responsive, offering a versatile balance of low-end torque and high-rev zing—ideal for both weekend carving and cross-country cruising.

Touring-Ready Design

While the CARB documents don’t list design details, it’s likely the GSX-8T models will feature:

  • 17-inch alloy wheels
  • Upright, comfortable riding posture
  • Tall windscreen
  • Sport-touring half-fairing

Expect similarities with the GSX-8R’s chassis, but with taller suspension and more relaxed ergonomics to reduce fatigue on longer rides.

What’s the Difference Between the GSX-8T and GSX-8TT?

Though not explicitly detailed in the filings, industry speculation suggests:

  • The GSX-8T will be the standard model.
  • The GSX-8TT may offer premium touring upgrades, such as:
    • Integrated luggage mounts or panniers
    • A larger windscreen
    • Additional electronics (e.g., cruise control, advanced traction control)
    • Possibly heated grips or seats

This dual-tier strategy mirrors what Suzuki has done with models like the V-Strom lineup.

Segment Rivals

Once launched, the GSX-8T and GSX-8TT will go head-to-head with some stiff competition in the middleweight sport-touring class, including:

  • Triumph Tiger Sport 850
  • BMW F 900 XR
  • Yamaha Tracer 7

Each of these models blends sportbike DNA with all-day comfort and tech features for touring, exactly the direction Suzuki seems to be taking.

Launch Timeline: All Eyes on EICMA

The official unveiling is expected at EICMA 2025, where Suzuki may reveal both models alongside updated or emissions-compliant versions of the GSX-8R and V-Strom 800 DE for global markets.

Suzuki’s middleweight twin platform has already shown its versatility and reliability. With the GSX-8T and GSX-8TT, the brand could finally offer a compelling alternative for riders who want the performance of a naked or sportbike but the comfort of a tourer. If priced right, these bikes could hit a sweet spot for solo riders and two-up adventurers alike.
