Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP rider Maxime Renaux will miss the upcoming rounds of the FIM Motocross World Championship in Portugal and Spain after suffering a heavy crash during the Swiss Grand Prix on Monday, April 21.

Initially, hopes were high after early medical scans showed no signs of fractures. However, subsequent in-depth evaluations have revealed that the Frenchman is suffering from an acute contusion to his gluteal region and left hip joint. Although the injury does not require surgery, the trauma is significant enough to sideline the 2021 MX2 World Champion for at least the next two Grand Prix weekends.

Currently ranked fifth in the MXGP World Championship standings, Renaux has shown strong form this season. His absence comes at a crucial point in the championship. This would potentially impact both his individual title hopes and Yamaha’s standings in the Constructors’ Championship. The team confirmed that it withdrew him from the Portuguese and Spanish rounds based on medical advice to ensure a complete and uncompromised recovery.

“While it’s disappointing to miss two key rounds, health and long-term performance must take priority,” a team spokesperson said. “Maxime is a fierce competitor, and we’re confident he’ll come back stronger once fully recovered.”

Yamaha Racing will announce updates regarding Renaux’s recovery timeline and return to competition on Yamaha-Racing.com as more information becomes available.

Renaux’s injury is another reminder of the intense physical toll motocross places on its athletes. As the season progresses, the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team will look to regroup and maintain momentum in his absence.
