The Petronas MIE Racing Honda Team, alongside its World Supersport (WorldSSP) rider Kaito Toba, has wrapped up a successful two-day test at the Jerez Circuit in Spain on January 21 and 22, as part of their preparations for the 2025 Supersport World Championship.
With limited pre-season testing opportunities, Toba and his team made the most of limited pre-season testing despite wet weather, completing 54 laps on the first day. On Wednesday, under improved conditions, Toba clocked an additional 65 laps, progressively improving his pace.
Reflecting on the test, Toba said, “It’s great to be back on track after the winter break, and we were lucky enough with the weather. Although it was windy on day two, we managed to complete our planned work. My crew is completely new, and I’m very thankful for the hard work the team has put in. Starting from scratch with a standard engine, we made steady progress and even worked on the engine brake and other adjustments to improve the CBR600. I was already faster than during our last test in 2024. I’m looking forward to our next test in Australia and the start of the season!”
The Petronas MIE Racing Honda Team will resume testing at Phillip Island, Australia, on February 17-18, just days before the 2025 Supersport World Championship’s opening round at the same venue from February 21-23.
Toba will be joined by his new teammate, Syarifuddin Azman, also known as Damok, who is stepping up to the WorldSSP category and replacing Khairul Idham Pawi. Damok, a former Moto3 competitor, is set to bring fresh energy to the team as they aim for a strong start to the 2025 season.
