Lightning Motorcycles enters production with LS218, the world’s first fast-charge electric bike. It uses Enevate’s cutting-edge technology, marking a monumental leap in the industry.

The LS218 boasts a remarkable 10-minute fast-charging capability, taking it from 20% to 80% state of charge (SOC). With a substantial 28.3kWh usable battery pack, the motorcycle achieves an impressive 200+ freeway mile range.

The LS218 also features a powerful performance profile, with 248 rwhp and 226 ft/lbs torque.

Before its launch, Lightning Motorcycles rigorously tested the LS218, showcasing its capabilities. In November 2023, a development bike covered an impressive 710-mile round trip in a single day from Hollister, California, to Irvine, thanks to Enevate’s fast-charging silicon-dominant battery tech. Unlike traditional Li-ion batteries, which need 2 days for a similar trip, the LS218 charges in 4 to 6 hours.

Richard Hatfield, CEO and Founder of Lightning Motorcycles, expressed enthusiasm for the transformative impact of Enevate’s technology on their electric motorcycles.

The LS218’s extended range at freeway speeds signifies a significant advancement over previous conventional Li-ion battery offerings. Hatfield remarked, “This has been an outstanding partnership with Enevate; together we push the boundaries in e-motorcycle innovation.”

Enevate’s breakthrough allows super-fast charging—10 times faster than regular lithium-ion batteries. It offers high energy densities, enhanced safety, cost-effective manufacturing, cold-weather operation, and a smaller carbon footprint. Importantly, Enevate’s tech integrates seamlessly with current battery manufacturing equipment, avoiding the need for pre-lithiation or costly new production processes.

Bob Kruse, CEO of Enevate, highlighted the significance of their partnership with Lightning and the world’s first application of silicon anode fast-charge technology.

“Enevate is proud to be part of the Lightning electric performance motorcycle programs,” he stated. “For the consumer, this means that riders of electric motorcycles with Enevate technology can now ride all day alongside conventional motorcycles without waiting hours on a charge cord.”

The Lightning Motorcycles and Enevate collaboration marks an electric motorcycle industry milestone. It promises more utility, shorter charging waits, and innovation in e-motorcycles. The LS218 hitting production signals a new era for fast-charge electric bikes, enabling riders to easily join long-distance trips with traditional motorcycles.
