The Malaysian government has rolled out the Electric Motorcycle Use Encouragement Scheme (Skim Galakan Penggunaan Motosikal Elektrik) to incentivize individuals earning RM120,000 or less annually.
Under this program, Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the 2024 Budget announced that buyers can receive a rebate of up to RM2,400. This initiative aims to boost the local electric vehicle (EV) industry and encourage wider adoption of EVs.
“We welcome the investment of over RM170 million by TNB, Gentari and Tesla Malaysia to install 180 EV charging stations,” he says.
As part of the government’s efforts, there are plans to offer individual income tax relief of up to RM2,500 on the charging facility expenses for a duration of four years. Moreover, consumers will also be eligible for tax deductions on EV rental costs for an additional two years.
