Authorities have confirmed that four electric scooters were among those lost in a fire at Suria KLCC earlier yesterday. Apart from the scooters, a total of 9 motorcycles were also caught in the blaze.
A spokesman for the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department stated that a total of 15 firefighters with three fire extinguishers were present at the location for extinguishing purposes.
This incident would be the first reported fire to involve an electric vehicle in Malaysia.
Despite electric vehicle fires being difficult to put out, the scooters herein involved small batteries. This makes the job of firefighters less burdensome.
There is yet to be a confirmation of the cause of the fire. There is no saying that the electric scooters could have caused it.
“Upon arrival, we found that nine motorcycles and four electric scooters were completely burnt. The other four were burnt between three and 20 per cent.”
The cause of the incident is still under investigation. However, the supplier of electric scooters, Beam, has made an official statement stating that their scooters were not the cause of the fire.
