The Hinckley motorcycle manufacturer just launched the all-new big bore 2021 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS. The Speed Triple 1200 RS is new in every aspect and has been built from the ground up. Now, let’s look at the bike in detail!

2021 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS

Design

Starting with the design, the new Speed Triple 1200 RS’s bodywork is brand new which is compact, sleek, sharp and generally follows Triumph’s iconic Speed Triple design DNA. The model gets Triumph’s next-gen updated LED headlamp unit upfront, an all-new LED taillamp at the rear and LED turn signals all around.

Looking at the bike in-depth, Triumph has made use of elements such as carbon-fibre in certain parts of the bike. The new Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS rolls in with carbon-fibre mudguard, colour-coded belly pan, seat cowl with interchangeable pillion seat and a compact tail unit.

Chassis and wheels

On the inside, the Speed Triple 1200 RS is built around an all-new chassis, making the new Speed Triple 1200 RS the lightest and best-handling Speed Triple ever. Weighing just 198kg, the new Speed Triple 1200 RS is 10kg lighter than the previous-gen Speed Triple 1050. Triumph says the frame is 17% lighter with weight distribution that is further forward and lower down.  Thanks to the new frame, the Speed Triple 1200 is even more agile, precise and more toned.

As for the wheels and tyres, the Speed Triple 1200 RS rolls in with a newly designed 17-inch lightweight cast aluminium black painted V-spoke wheels wrapped around Metzeler RACETEC™ RR tyres as standard.

Suspension and brakes

In the case of the suspension, the Speed Triple 1200 RS gets a fully adjustable Öhlins suspension setup. Suspension duties are taken care of by an  Öhlins NIX30 upside-down forks with adjustable for pre-load, rebound and compression damping up front and an Öhlins TTX36 twin tube monoshock with adjustable for preload, rebound and compression damping at the rear.

As for brakes, twin Brembo Stylema® radial monobloc front callipers with 320mm front discs and a single Brembo twin-piston calliper with 220mm disc at the rear take care of braking duties.

Engine

Moving on to the oily bits, the Speed Triple 1200 RS features a 11600 triple mill developed with insight from Triumph’s Moto2 race engine programme. Mated to a 6-speed gearbox, the 2021 Speed Triple 1200 RS pushes 177.5 hp @ 10,750 rpm and 125 Nm of peak torque @ 9,000 rpm.

Looking in-depth into the figures, the red line has been raised by 650 rpm to 11,150 rpm on the new engine. Besides this, the peak torque of 125 Nm @ 9,000 rpm is 8 Nm higher than the ongoing model.

Although the new engine is bigger in capacity, Triumph says the new engine is 7kg lighter and more compact compared to the current Speed Triple 1050’s powertrain.

Electronics and rider assist

In the case of rider assist and electronics, the Speed Triple 1200 RS come with an array of features. Starting with the basics, the Speed Triple 1050 features a brand-new 5 inch TFT instrument cluster which comes packed with 2 different themes and a lap timer for track use.

The new Speed Triple 1200 RS features My Triumph Connectivity System and a keyless system as standard. The My Triumph Connectivity System lets the rider access navigation via My Triumph app and control GoPro, phone and music operation as well.

On the performance side, the new Speed Triple 1200 RS packs Triumph Shift Assist up-and-down quick shifter, optimised cornering ABS, switchable optimised cornering traction control and 5 riding modes which include Rain, Road, Sport, Track and Rider.

Price, colour options and availability

The 2021 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS is priced at £15,100 (Approx. RM 83,916) in the UK. In the case of colour options, buyers have the option to choose between Sapphire Black, with red and silver graphics, or Matt Silver Ice, with black, silver and yellow graphics.

So how about the availability in Malaysia? Well, the 2021 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS is definitely coming to Malaysia, in fact, it’s just a matter of time for it to land here!
