2021 Yamaha MT-15 pricing details announced for Malaysia – RM 11,988

HLYM announces the pricing details of the much anticipated Yamaha MT-15. The new 2021 Yamaha MT-15 will be available at dealers starting this week with a basic sales price of RM 11,988.

Earlier in Septemeber, Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Malaysia launched the all-new Yamaha MT-25 and previewed the MT-25’s younger sibling, the Yamaha MT-15.

During the event, HLYM announced that they would update the pricing and availability details of the smaller Yamaha MT-15 by November 2020. As promised, Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Malaysia just announced the official pricing and availability details of the first edition Yamaha MT-15 today.

2021 Yamaha MT-15 First Edition Specs

Design

In the case of the design, just like the Yamaha MT-25, the Yamaha MT-15 is a stunner with its clean lines and masculine look. The MT-15 features a predator-type dual slant headlamp and a central LED headlamp. Design touches like the side-mounted air intake, the narrow tail section as well as the overall posture reflect the muscle character of the 155cc Master of Torque. Just like the bigger brothers, the 2021 Yamaha MT-15 also comes with an upright riding position to cater a fun and comfortable ride. Aside from this, the MT-15 comes with an LCD instrument panel similar to the one that’s found on the Yamaha YZF-R15.

Chassis

As for the chassis, the MT-15 is built around a delta box frame and features an aluminium swingarm. The naked streetfighter weighs 133kgs, which is 4kgs lighter than the faired R15.

Engine

In the case of the engine, the new Yamaha MT-15 is powered by the same liquid-cooled 155cc single-cylinder SOHC, VVA engine that powers the R15. Mated to a 6-speed gearbox, the MT-15 pushes 19hp @ 10,000 rpm and a peak torque of 14.7 Nm @ 8,500 rpm.  Speaking of the gearbox, it adopts assist and slipper clutch as standard. Assist and slipper clutch reduce the weight of the clutch pull in and provides smoother low-stress downshifts. Aside from this, by proving smoother lighter gear shifts, it helps the bike accelerate quicker too.

Suspension and brakes

Suspension duties are taken care of by USD front fork and preload-adjustable mono-shock at the rear. As for the brakes, the MT-15 gets a 282mm disc with 2 pot calliper upfront and a 220mm disc with single pot calliper at the rear.  Just like the Yamaha R15, the MT-15 comes equipped with a set of 17-inch rims wrapped around by a  100/80 tyre up front and a chunky  140/70 tyre at the rear.
