A New Honda V-Twin Engine in the Works!

A New Honda V-Twin Engine in the Works!

Latest patent leaks suggest a new V-Twin Honda Engine in the works. On top of this, reports also suggest the new V-Twin engine could potentially power a number of other future models.

The latest patent leaks suggest Honda might be looking into introducing a new V-Twin engine. The patent images showcase a retro-style roadster with a V-Twin engine. The retro-style roadster in the patent somewhat looks similar to the VT500 and the BROS 650 from back in the days. As for the engine, it’s clearly a V-Twin and not a V4 because the patent specifically mentions “two cylinders” liquid-cooled engine although we can clearly see the retro style cooling fins in the cylinder heads.

The patent document doesn’t elaborate much on displacement, engine output or any other technical information. Also, it doesn’t clearly state whether the engine and the bike in the patent go hand in hand. However, we can only speculate and pick up a few things from this leak.

What we speculate

The bike in the patent somewhat resembles the CB1100. The current top-end CBs come with in-line four engines, does this mean Honda could be planning on a V-twin retro roadster?  Since we don’t have any information on the displacement, this theory can be applied to a mid-sized V Twin roadster too.

On the other hand, assuming the engine is a mid-sized V-Twin and omitting the roadster in the patent could mean something to the Africa Twin fans. Could this possibly be an engine for a small capacity Africa Twin with a V-twin engine; like back in the days? The possibilities are endless!

The patent was filed on 20th February 2018, however, it’s only been published on 30th April 2020. Although we can only speculate at this point the idea of a big/mid-sized V-twin roadster or a small capacity Africa Twin sure does sound exciting.  If things do go according to plans we might be able to see the result of this in concept form by 2020 or somewhere by 2021.
