BMW Motorrad has been teasing us with some hints that they’re preparing something special for the upcoming motorcycle exhibitions, mainly EICMA Milan motorcycle show, and while we’ve spoke to a BMW Motorrad source that confirmed the imminent arrival of a set of three new models aimed at the American market, all based on an inline-six-cylinder engine used on the K1600 models, we now get to hear, for the first time ever, the brand-new 1800 cc Boxer engine that the German manufacturer will be using soon on a production motorcycle.
BMW Motorrad decided to let us hear the amazing sound that comes out of this 1800 cc Boxer engine, and they’ve even asked Japanese custom builders Custom Works ZON to create a one of a kind bike, where the engine is the center piece.
The result is the R18 Departed, with a truly unique style, is one of the most interesting we’ve seen in months, and captures the essence of the Boxer engine that makes BMW Motorrad so famous in the motorcycle world.
Here’s a video that shows just how incredible the R18 of Custom Works ZON is, and how the 1800 cc Boxer engine sounds amazing!
