Electric motorcycles are showing up with new technologies, especially regarding batteries. But some smaller companies like Finnish RMK work in a different way, showing new ways to innovate. In this case, the big new is the hubless wheel that RMK plans to use on its newest “toy”, the E2.
This electric motorcycle is set to be shown to the public during Helsinki’s MP 19 motorcycle show, in February 2019, and for the moment we only have a few sketches of the E2 to show you.
The E2 electric motorcycle uses a hubless rear wheel that not only looks very futuristic, kind a like the bikes used in the Tron movies, and the wheel also houses the electric motor capable of developing 67 hp and getting the RMK E2 up to a speed of 160 km/h.
This electric motorcycle will be available in two versions: the basic one has a battery that offers a 200 km range, while the up-spec version offers a range of up to 300 km with a single charge. RMK says that to charge the E2 from 0% energy it will take 2 to 3 hours.
The hubless rear wheel design is an in-house development from RMK, with patents already pending for the technology. The electric motor hiding at that rear wheel is able to deliver 320 Nm of torque, a perfect performance for riding around town.
Teemu Saukkio, RMK’s head designer, says he expects the gyroscopic mass of the rear wheel to actually be lighter than a standard motorcycle wheel, which in turn will make the E2 a very nice bike to ride around corners.
The estimated price tag on this new electric motorcycle from Finland is of 24.990€, around RM117.814. Reservations are open, and if you would like to know more about this radical electric motorcycle please visit www.rmkvehicles.com/ .
