These last couple of weeks have made Jorge Lorenzo a happy man again, after a tough period since joining Ducati without winning or getting “pole positions” as he was used to. But know, the Spanish rider seems to have found its path with the Italian machine, he is happy, and that shows on track with Lorenzo being back on top form.
But the Spanish rider isn’t happy just because of that!
He has now signed a new deal with Honda, and from 2019 he’ll race alongside Marc Marquez on the Honda factory team, Repsol Honda.
That decision, while surprising for many who follow MotoGP, has left Jorge Lorenzo confident in the future and he says the “future is brilliant and I’ll be on a competitive bike together with Marc Marquez”.
The negotiations were carried out in absolute secret, between Lorenzo and Honda’s manager Alberto Puig. Not even his family knew what he was about to do, “because that way things are easier” says Lorenzo.
Jorge Lorenzo’s move to Repsol Honda is considered a bombshell on the MotoGP paddock, and even if Marc Marquez is considered the number 1 rider in the team, the fact of the matter is that Lorenzo is also a three-time MotoGP champion, and if he manages to understand the Honda RC213V and make the bike work to his riding style, he will be able to fight for the title again and possibly take Marquez place inside the team.
Either way, it seems Jorge Lorenzo is happy and doesn’t regret the decision to move to Honda from Ducati, even if he is now winning races with the Italian bike, and Honda must be really happy to have signed Lorenzo, creating what many fans call as a “dream team”.
