A new MV Agusta F4 superbike? Only in 2021!

A new MV Agusta F4 superbike? Only in 2021!

With MV Agusta showcasing its new naked Brutale 800RR to the press during a very exclusive event in Varese, Italy, MV Agusta’s CEO, Giovanni Castiglioni has taken the opportunity to release some more information’s about what his brand is preparing for the near future. And those plans don’t include a new generation F4 superbike… at least until 2021.

After overcoming some financial troubles in the last few years, MV Agusta has reorganized their ideas and started to work on a new inline four-cylinder engine which will be used in different bikes. The first model to use it will be a new Brutale 1000, and although MV’s historic F4 superbike would be a suitable candidate to also use this all new engine, Giovanni Castiglioni says that after the Brutale, the next new model will be a neo-classic bike.

So, what about the iconic F4? Surely MV Agusta wants to have a superbike that can fight for the title of best 1000 cc sport bike in the market.

Castiglioni agrees that the F4 is so important to the brand that for sure we will se a new generation in the future, in 2021. Until then, the current generation F4 will continue to be raced in World Superbike, at least until the end of 2018 season, maybe MV Agusta will continue to race with her in 2019, but for sure in 2020 they will cease the entire racing operation at World Superbike level.

Regarding a road version of MV Agusta F4, the son of the late Claudio Castiglioni won’t forget his father’s legacy. Very soon we will see a final edition of the current F4, named F4 Claudio, an homage to Claudio Castiglioni, a premium and very exotic version of this Italian superbike.

“We will sell the F4 Claudio as ‘last bike’ edition – it’s very, very limited. It’s basically Leon Camier’s bike for the street, and it’s a tribute to my dad, because that’s the bike he did,” explained Giovanni Castiglioni.

The price of this Claudio edition will be very high, and production will be very limited.

And for 2021, what can we expect from MV Agusta regarding the new F4 superbike?

Although there’s not much information about this project, Giovanni Castiglioni already released some interesting details: the new F4 won’t be designed specifically to be raced in World Superbike, so it won’t be limited by rules and regulations like the current F4 is. That means MV Agusta R&D department will be free and able to produce a motorcycle that virtually has no limits as to materials that can be used or even technologies.

Castiglioni isn’t thinking about transforming the MV Agusta F4 into an electric superbike, but he believes that the new bike can use something different, like a hybrid powerplant. That would allow the F4 to access different kinds of performance, with the rider changing the engine power at the push of a button. Giovanni Castiglioni goes even further saying that he finds very interesting that the power could reach 300 to 350hp!

Whatever it is that MV Agusta is working on for the F4, we bet it’ll be a true beauty and a bike that will take superbike performance to an all new level!

With more than ten years as a motorcycle journalist, i enjoy everything that has to do with two-wheels. I'm a fan of sport bikes and i prefer riding them on a racetrack, but give me a road filled with corners and good asphalt and i'll be there to have some fun!
