Text and pictures adapted from MotoGP Press Release

To any hardcore Italian motorcycle owner dating from the 70’s up until the 90’s, there exists a love affair with the beautifully-made and highly tunable carburetors and fuel systems from a company called Dell’Orto.
Dell’Orto was founded in Cabiate, Italy in 1933 and has gone on to supply fuel systems to classic Moto Guzzi, Benelli, Piaggio, BMW, Ducati, Cagiva motorcycles, amongst others. One could find Dell’Orto carbs in classic cars such as Alfa Romeo, Ford, Lotus, Lancia, and many others.
The family-run business has evolve with the times and are currently producing the latest electronic fuel injection systems such throttle bodies for the BMW S 1000 RR and Aprilia RSV4. It’s from this expertise that Dell’Orto S.p.a. was awarded the contract to supply engine control units (ECU) for the Moto3 Championship since 2012.
Moto3, Dell'Orto confirmed as Moto3 ECU supplier until 2020 ...

Now, Dell’Orto will remain as the exclusive Moto3 ECU supplier for the next three years, with a new agreement.

Moto3™ is one of the most spectacular categories of racing in the world, with groups of more than ten riders often fighting for the win down to the final corner. A feeder category for Moto2™ and then MotoGP™, the class is both a show of its own and an important investment in the future of Grand Prix motorcycle racing – a valuable stage for Dell’Orto S.p.a.

Wahid's lust for motorcycles was spurred on by his late-Dad's love for his Lambretta on which he courted, married his mother, and took baby Wahid riding on it. He has since worked in the motorcycle and automotive industry for many years, before taking up riding courses and testing many, many motorcycles since becoming a motojournalist. Wahid likes to see things differently. What can you say about a guy who sees a road safety message in AC/DC's "Highway to Hell."
